How much can you read in one week?

Even when you are a massive book lover, book worm, book nerd or whatever you want to call it, it can sometimes be difficult to find time to read as much as you’d like during a normal week filled with work and cooking and spending time with your loved ones and all the other things we like to do other than reading.

So, when I realised that next week (18-24th of August) was time for the fall edition of the tri-annual Bout of Books Readathon, I instantly knew that I wanted to join in! Despite having a normal week filled with long work days and plans, I actually think it might be fun to see just how much reading I could get done if for 1 week, I prioritised reading whenever I have the chance to.

Bout of Books

I will be updating my Bout of Books Readathon post all week with my progress as well as posting a few halfway post and of course a goal post. In addition, I will be Tweeting and Instagramming how I get on throughout the week (see the links to my accounts below) .

My Goals:
1. To focus on and prioritise reading whenever I can throughout the week
Not accounting for anything but work (which is very unpredictable), I should have approximately 4-5 hours each night for reading Monday-Friday and then the whole weekend (with a mandatory break on Saturday night for the very much long-awaited return of the new Doctor!)

2. To read at least 5 complete books
I normally read about 2 books per week with my normal focus, so it should be fun to see how much I can read if I spend all my free time on nothing but reading.

As of right now, I have no idea what I will be reading, but as soon as I post this, I will go have a look at my shelves and Kindle and try to make a nice pile for the progress post. As always, there is a very good chance I will deviate from the pre-selected books during the week to read whatever catches my fancy, but it’s always nice to have something ready for those moments of indecision.

As always when it comes to readathons, the most important aspect for me is the feeling of sharing the reading experience with others. Just knowing that as you read, hundreds of others are reading at the same time with the same “purpose” – that is a wonderful concept.

Do you want to join in? Sign-ups are open for another 2 days, so you can still join in the fun!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda@On a Book Bender and Kelly@Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01 am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, visit the Bout of Books blog.
